Cookies are small text files that a website or PWA places on your device when you visit. They help the site remember you, keep you logged in, and make features work properly. We also use similar technologies like browser local storage for offline PWA functionality.

2. Cookies We Use

Strictly Necessary Cookies (always on)

These are required for the app to function:

• Authentication (keeps you logged in securely)
• Session management (remembers your Care Circle and role — Admin, Member, or Elder)
• Security (protects against fraud and maintains Row Level Security)
• PWA features (offline access, push notifications, install prompt)
• Basic functionality (loading your dashboard, calendar, chats, and red emergency button)

Functional Cookies

• Preferences (dark mode, text size for Elder view, notification settings)
• Chat features (read receipts, typing indicators, photo upload progress)

Analytics Cookies (optional)

We use lightweight, privacy-friendly analytics (via Supabase and a simple self-hosted tool) to understand how families use the app so we can improve it. This helps us know which features bring the most relief (e.g., the two chats or the emergency button). No personal data is shared with third parties for advertising. We do not track you across other websites.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies for marketing, or any social media pixels.

3. How Long Do Cookies Last?

• Session cookies: deleted when you close your browser or log out
• Persistent cookies: last up to 12 months (or until you clear them)
• You can delete them anytime through your browser settings

4. Your Choices and Control

• On first visit: You will see a clear cookie consent banner. You can accept all, customize, or reject non-essential cookies.
• Browser settings: You can block or delete cookies at any time in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc. (Note: blocking necessary cookies may prevent the app from working properly.)
• In-app controls: Go to Settings → Privacy → Manage Cookies to review and revoke consent for functional/analytics cookies.
• Do Not Track: We honor browser Do Not Track signals where possible.

If you block necessary cookies, some core features (login, chats, reminders) may not work.

5. Third-Party Cookies

The only third parties that may set cookies through CareGivFam are:

• Stripe (payment processing — only on the pricing page)
• Supabase (hosting, auth, realtime chat)
• Resend / Twilio (email & SMS — only when you trigger notifications)

All are bound by strict data-processing agreements and do not use your data for their own advertising.

We may update this Cookie Policy. If changes are material, we will notify you by email or in-app banner and update the effective date above.
